Add an iconic, highly prized Indonesian species form to your collection with the Hoya Deykeae Splash Mother Plant. Native to Sumatra, this rare cultivar of Hoya deykeae is renowned for its thick, rigid, heart-shaped (obcordate) foliage covered in heavy, metallic silver splash and highlighted by deep, prominent structural veining.

Offered as a mature Mother Plant, this specimen arrives with an extensive, fully established root system and strong, well-lignified vines loaded with active growth nodes. It creates a stunning statement piece when trained up a support trellis and serves as a premier, high-yield stock plant for taking top-tier propagation cuttings.

Key Features & Highlights

  • Dramatic Heart-Shaped Foliage: Thick, hard-textured leaves shaped like inverted hearts, heavily flecked with brilliant silver splash across dark emerald surfaces.

  • Collector-Grade Mother Specimen: Fully rooted with multiple active growth points and mature stems—skipping the slow unrooted establishment phase.

  • Sweetly Scented Blooms: Capable of producing clusters of star-shaped, creamy-white to light yellow waxy blossoms under bright lighting.

  • Resilient Succulent Habit: Rigid leaf structure retains moisture efficiently, making it low-maintenance and forgiving for indoor growers.

Care Guide & Growing Conditions

Parameter Recommended Care
Light Bright, indirect light; strong indirect light maximizes the density and shine of the silver splash coverage.
Watering Allow the potting medium to dry out 60–70% between waterings to safeguard root health.
Soil Mix Chunky, fast-draining epiphytic mix (coarse orchid bark, pumice, perlite, and charcoal).
Humidity Thrives in 50%+ relative humidity; adapts smoothly to standard ambient indoor household air.
Temperature Prefers warm indoor temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Protect strictly from cold drafts.

Hoya Genus

The Hoya genus, encompassing over 500 species, is a diverse and fascinating group of tropical plants within the Apocynaceae family. Native to various regions across Asia, Australia, and the Pacific islands, Hoyas are predominantly evergreen perennial creepers or vines, though some species can also grow as shrubs. They often grow epiphytically on trees, using adventitious roots to climb, but can also be found growing terrestrially or in rocky areas.

Hoya plants are characterized by their simple, succulent leaves arranged in an opposite pattern, which vary greatly in size, texture, color, and venation.

One of the most striking features of Hoya plants is their flowers, which are typically star-shaped and waxy, appearing in clusters. Flower colors range widely from white and pink to yellow, orange, dark red, near-black, and even green, often accompanied by a sweet fragrance and abundant nectar production.

Hoya Care

Hoyas do best in bright, indirect light and well-draining soil, such as a mix designed for orchids or cacti. They prefer to be slightly root-bound, so repot only when absolutely necessary to avoid excess moisture, which can lead to root rot. Water sparingly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings, and ensure good air circulation around the plant. Hoyas are generally resistant to pests but keep an eye out for mealybugs, which may appear on the undersides of leaves or along stems.
