How Can I Propagate a Homalomena?

  • During a Monday night live sale, Jon mentioned that there are different ways to propogate a Homalomena plant. One of the ways was by plucking pups and letting them be separate plants, but he mentioned another way (something about a "potato chip" as overseas growers call them)? Could someone please elaborate on this method and maybe discuss the best/safest ways to propogate a Homalomena? Thank you so much!

  • Homalomena have rhizomatous roots which means they can be propagating from cuttings of these rhizomes. You basically chop the stem into sections (like potato chips??) and plant them and each one can root and grow.

Seperating pups out is definetely the safest method of propogation as cutting rhizomes has risks especially if done improperly...
