Philodendron Genus

Philodendrons, a diverse genus of about 450 species, are stout-stemmed climbers from tropical America, belonging to the Araceae family. They typically start as vines and can transform into epiphytes, attaching to trees and any other support they are provided with. The foliage varies in color from green to coppery, red, or purplish, with leaf shapes and textures differing by species and maturity. These plants exhibit a unique climbing strategy, using modified roots to ascend tree trunks and adjust their growth based on light and moisture availability, often regrowing if they fall to the ground.

Philodendron Care

Philodendrons do best in bright, indirect light. They can tolerate lower light conditions, however this may cause variegated plants to lose their color. Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry, allowing excess water to drain freely to prevent root rot. Philodendrons prefer a well-draining potting mix and benefit from regular feeding with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer. Maintain a moderate humidity level between 50 and 70% if possible and keep the plant in a warm environment, ideally between 70-85°F (21-29°C)
